RENEW Career Exploration

For schools that have a RENEW program, consider making it into an ELO for participating students.

Overview

  • Essential Question: What are my strengths, interests and goals for life after high school and how will I get there?
  • Areas of study: Career exploration
  • Type and amount of credit earned: 1and elective credit
  • Community partner: RENEW Facilitator, identified career mentor

Competencies

  • Self-Knowledge: Develop an understanding of values, desires, thought patterns, motivations, goals and ambitions, emotional responses, strengths and weaknesses, and effect on others and will be able to communicate this information to others.
  • Health and wellness: Student will identify components of physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Goal setting: Student will set three or more personally meaningful goals.
  • Communication: Student will exhibit an understanding of communication skills required for success in the workplace.
  • Career Skills: Student will demonstrate an understanding of the education and skills required in a particular career field.
  • Collaboration: Student will research, and practice effective collaboration techniques.
  • Workplace Regulations: Students will explain workplace regulations.

Student activities

  • Engage in a student-centered future’s planning process with a trained RENEW Facilitator.
  • Identify your vision for life after high school, any barriers, or concerns that may limit your ability to achieve this vision.
  • Set three concrete goals that will allow you to move towards your vision.
  • Identify what additional knowledge, skills, and additional resources you will need in order to achieve your personal goals.
  • Solicit support from your community to work toward your goals.

Assessment

There is assessment criteria for research and reflection. Products will be chosen from student Future’s plans, action plans, agenda planner, portfolio, resume, career brochure, career research, etc.
